Scaring Someone Out of Hell

No Scary Words Please

We just had our annual fall festival at church and we asked that no one wear a scary costume, but some churches have taken it much further than that and said no to the “scary” parts of the Bible. In these churches God is only described as loving and the congregations are told that God wants them all to be happy, healthy, and wealthy. They say God loves you to their congregations and they respond by saying, so what can God do for me? That is when they tell you the “good news” that God wants to give you a better house, a raise at work, and He wants to heal you of all your physical sicknesses so that you will never suffer a day in your life! Awesome! I mean it is not true, but it is easy to see why this message is attractive.

The Gospel is Terrifying

The real gospel is actually terrifying. I know that your brain is about to explode because of that statement. How could the gospel, the good news of our loving God, be terrifying? Well it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that if there is good news about being rescued then there must be something bad that you need to be rescued from. The worse the situation you are in the better the good news that there is a plan to rescue you will be when you hear that there is a rescue plan. The thing that makes the gospel terrifying is that everyone on earth is in need of being rescued from the worst possible fate, but most people do not even know that they need to be rescued.  What God did for you He did on the cross. It was a bloody horrifying mess. Jesus was beaten, humiliated, and hung on that cross because of your sins. The sins that will send you to a very real place called Hell unless you accept that the sacrifice of Jesus was for you. Hell is a place where the worm never dies and the fire is never quenched. If that is not scary I don’t know what would be scary. In the movies all the monster can do to you is kill you and then it is over. In reality death is the beginning of eternal joy for those who believe in Jesus or eternal punishment for those who reject Him. The lost should be much more afraid of what will happen after they die than of how they will die.

Should I be Afraid

Should you fear God? Have you ever sinned?  If so and  you are  willfully rejecting God’s plan of salvation then yes you should fear Him. Only a fool would try to act as if they can handle an eternity in Hell. Are you one of those who thinks that God is going to save everyone and all you need to do is enjoy life and all it has to offer without regard to God’s will? Take a look at these passages of scripture and see if they line up with your way of thinking.

Bible Verses About Choosing and Living for Christ

But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. (Matthew 10:33-35)

He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. (1 John 2:4)

And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 25:30)

But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? (James 2:20)

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (Matthew 16:24)

He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:18)

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: (Matthew 25:41)

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. (1 John 2:15)

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2)

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.(Romans 6:1-4)

Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? (Hebrews 10:29)

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’  23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ (Matthew 7:21-23)

The Gospel is the Best News Ever

Did those verses sound like the teachings of the churches that proclaim that we can do as we wish and everyone is going to be saved? The gospel is the best news ever because it is God’s rescue plan to save us from the worst fate ever! God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:17) I am not the type of pastor who wants to put his arm around you and tell you that everything is going to be okay. The fact is for many billions of people it is not going to be okay, and if you do not repent of your sins and trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ by making Him the Lord of your life then you will die and go to Hell forever. You should be terrified!

What the Bible Says About Salvation

Here is some of what the Bible says about salvation. Read these passages and allow God to speak to you. If you are not able to come to grips with your salvation here and now then please ask God to help you understand. If you are afraid to pray or you are confused then please seek out a pastor who teaches the full Word of God and ask him to pray for you and to help you to understand. There is nothing more important than you eternal salvation.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

He that believes on the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him. (John 3:36)

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.(John 6:47)

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. (1 John 4:9)

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:13)

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23)

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9)

Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: (Luke 12:8)

Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. (Galatians 4:7)

Don’t Wait Another Day

If you feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit inside of you right now then please pray. Just speak the words that are on your heart to the Lord. You can say them out loud or silently, sitting or standing, with your eyes open or closed. Just don’t let you heart be hardened for another moment. Don’t waste another second of your life apart from your creator. He loves you. No matter what you are going through remember that God sent His Son to die for you. He has already proven His love for you and the sufferings of this present time are only temporary. His plan is to keep you in His presence for all of eternity. This life is only a vapor of smoke.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions if you feel like I can help you.
