Have you heard or read that Christianity is a relationship not a religion? The positive part of this statement is it stresses the fact that unlike most religions Christians have a personal relationship with our Savior. The negative part is it isn’t true.
The harm in this is what some mean when they make that statement. There’s an attempt by some to claim a relationship with Jesus while rejecting His commands and His Church.
The only appropriate relationship with Jesus is one where He’s recognized as God, worshiped, and His commands are followed. That last sentence is by definition a religion.
When you fail to follow Jesus commands and mock His bride, the church, you’re in a relationship with yourself. You’ve broken the first and second commandments. You worship a false god a god of your own creation.
If I were to offer you a free car you’d surely consider the cost. You’d have to pay taxes. You’d have to buy insurance. You’d have to buy gas. You’d have to pay for maintenance. Salvation is a free gift. But unless we are willing to pay the price of being in a relationship with Jesus we’ll never receive the gift.
We’re not fully aware of all this entails many times at the point of salvation. God knows a true profession of repentance where a person makes Him the Lord of their life. Those who pray for salvation with no intentions of making Christ Lord will be disappointed on the day of judgment.
Boast in your relationship with the King of Kings. It’s the greatest privilege known to man. Don’t be deceived. This relationship only comes to those who willingly surrender to Jesus as Lord; as they hear His Word; are convicted by His Spirit; repent of their sins; and place their faith in Him as Lord.
There are many false religions. There’s only one true religion. Examine yourself to know if you’re in a relationship with the one true God.
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.(James 1:27)
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.(John 14:21)
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9)
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.( Matthew 7:21)
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your owin selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?(2Corinthians 13:5)
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?(Luke 14:28)
