Holiness Leads to Humility

Human nature is set against all things holy. Our culture is proof of this. Still we are called to be holy as He is holy. Holiness is not an option for those who will follow Christ.

The pursuit of holiness will not lead to a holier than thou attitude. The pursuit of holiness serves as a source of humility. We’re forced to admit our weaknesses and become completely reliant on our Savior Jesus Christ.

Holiness leads to Humility…

Humility leads to prayer

And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt. 37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? 38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.(Mark 14:35-38)

Humility leads to preaching/proclaiming the truth

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:2-5)

Humility leads to power

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.(2 Corinthians 12:9-10)

Is God weak? Is He unable to overcome the things in this world? So why are Christians experiencing so many defeats in our culture and in our lives? God hasn’t forgotten us. We’ve forgotten what it means to belong to Him. If we will pursue God and His ways we’ll realize He’s been pursuing us the whole time.
